The bathroom is no longer the boring, functional space that has the “third wheel” or “odd one out” reputation that simply follows the design principles of the rest of the home. The bathroom continues to evolve as its own space and is the one area homeowners can truly express themselves and take design risks. We teamed up with Masterworx Architectural Design to create a bathroom design that showcases the bathroom as a designer space in its own right with a Paris-inspired interior decor.
To uphold the majestic views of the Cape Town beaches in sight, the bathroom transformation required a versatile and effective layout to accommodate the en-suite bedroom for an international traveler. According to professional interior architect from Masterworx, Margaux Dercksen, “to achieve a contemporary design for the bathroom, we had to provide a classic element by including timeless finishes.”
The bathroom transformation was done by incorporating clean and slick marble finishes accented with matt black bathroom accessories and tapware and the Bette Lux drop-in steel bath. Drop-in baths offer fantastic space saving solutions that add an aesthetic appeal to the overall bathroom design, highlighting clear-cut elegance and harmonious lines.
But if you are wondering whether to take a design risk with matt black bathroom fittings with the most often question asked, are different metals still on trend? The answer is yes, if you love it and if it works in your space – then yes. It’s important to bring in texture to add dimension and warmth to a bathroom space which will help bring it to life and feel more welcoming, whether you do that with different metal finises like brushed bronze or matt black, or whether you include a steel bath in your bathroom design, the end goal is to create a lasting impression.
“The design was refined through simplicity and translated into a perfect modern interior,” concluded Dercksen. The mix of monochrome colours and textures was created to achieve a dramatic and effortlessly chic interior.
