Taking on a playful attitude to bathroom design

We chatted to Karen Steyn, Interior Designer and owner of The Home Studio for some pointers when choosing a colour palette for your bathroom space.

As a first step, Karen suggests deciding on what theme you’d like to bring into the space – monochrome vs bold colours. A unique way that Karen proposes identifying your colour preferences is by looking in your cupboard to see what sort of colours you prefer wearing as they often extend to other elements of your life, including your home.

For this bathroom design, the palette is focused on enjoyment and includes one bold colour theme that inspires a playful attitude to design and infuses joy, happiness and fun into the space. The colour yellow is associated with cheer, and good humour, it also brightens up the room, taking it from boring and bland to interior design haven. “If you’re playing with bold colour, try bringing in modern neutrals of whites that will ground your bathroom space and add an element of modernity and timelessness.” says Karen

The pop of bright yellow colour on the feature wall is eased into the space by adding contrast and dimension with neutral wood, providing a new level of sophistication to the room design. The permanent features such as the bath and the vanity were kept neutral as it becomes easier to change the colour palette at a later stage should your colour preferences change. The bathroom design here features the stunning BETTE Comodo bath and washbasin.

Karen advises that anyone looking to decorate or refurbish any space in their home, should create a Pinterest board as this will help validate and evolve selected colour schemes.
